Innovis Farmers Jim Beary, Mike Tewson and John Scott collecting their awards
The 2014 breeding season has been mild and prosperous for many farmers, but none more so than several Innovis breeding partners and clients, who topped off a successful breeding season by scooping top awards at several different events.
Innovis breeding partner John Scott from Fearn Farm, based in Scotland, scooped the Farmers Weekly Sheep Farmer of the Year 2014 award at the prestigious ceremony based at London’s Park Lane. The Farmers Weekly described that it is ‘John’s forward-thinking attitude that sets him apart’, and independent judge Catherine Nakielny explained that “John’s focus on maximising grass use and improving genetics in tandem demonstrates an understanding of the drivers of profitability for his business”. John is currently breeding Innovis Aberfields, alongside his Cheviot and cross-bred ewes. To read more about John’s story CLICK HERE
It was Innovis and Focus Genetics Breeding Partner Mike Tewson who took the British Farming Awards Sheep Innovator of the Year 2014 at the award ceremony held near Birmingham in October. Mike has developed his winning formula by combining the New Zealand genetics of the Highlander and the Primera to produce a low-input, outdoor lambing flock. He is also a great advocate for getting the younger generation into farming, explaining that he was shocked to win, and was so pleased at the amount of younger people in attendance to really boost the industry. Another winner at the British Farming Awards 2014 was Innovis client Jim Beary, who won the 2014 New Entrants Award: Against all odds. Despite growing up surrounded by the agricultural industry, there was no family farm for Jim to take over once he had completed his degree in Agriculture at Harper Adams University. Jim has worked exceedingly hard to be where he is today, and continues to use Aberfield’s to help him become all the more successful and profitable. To read more about Jim CLICK HERE.
