This commitment to research and development has enabled us to build upon our highly successful and established crossbreeding programmes. It is a commitment that is shared by Focus Genetics, our partners in New Zealand, and which has enabled Innovis to extend our product offering.
The result is a selection of both maternal and terminal sire lines that are suited to meet the individual needs and requirements of the modern sheep farmer.
From our home in the heart of mid-Wales, Innovis operates the largest performance recorded flocks in the UK with more than 40 traits recorded in the 1,500 elite nucleus ewes. The breeding programme is growing rapidly with multiplier units recording a further 2,200 breeding ewes in 2014. The elite nucleus flock is farmed under commercial conditions at 1000ft lambing outdoors so the ewes have to earn their place to stay within the flock at this level. We accelerate the very best genetics using large scale multiple ovulation embryo transfer (MOET) programs.
With more than 15 years of research behind them, the Focus Genetics sheep breeding programmes record over 10,000 animals annually and have generated a database of over 1 million records in total. The Focus Genetics breeding programme includes the world's largest sheep progeny testing programme and uses the range of sheep genetic marker technologies that are commercially available in New Zealand.
Our genetic gains are forging ahead year on year so that our clients can see the benefits on their farms – our clients’ success is our success and we can advise you on which of our rams or crossbred ewes would best suit your needs.
